Attendance Matters… Every Day Counts!

Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Regular attendance plays a critical role in student achievement, and understanding attendance expectations helps families support student success.

Excused Absences

Students may be excused from school for reasons including:

• Personal illness
• Serious illness of a family member
• Death of an immediate family member or legal guardian
• Observance of religious holidays
• Orders from governmental agencies
• Conditions that make attendance hazardous to health or safety
• Registering to vote or voting in a public election (up to one day)
• Participation in approved school activities
• Active-duty military family leave (with required documentation) 

Important: Documentation must be provided to support excused absences and may be uploaded through the Parent Access Portal. 

Unexcused Absences

Examples of unexcused absences include:

• Missing the bus
• Oversleeping
• Working
• Truancy
• Shopping
• Car failure
• Senior picture appointments
• Personal appointments
• Running errands for parents or guardians 

Students with 5 or more unexcused absences are considered truant. Students with 10 or more unexcused absences may be at risk of receiving No Credit (NC) in their courses.

Asynchronous Remote Attendance

When students are unable to attend school in person, they may participate remotely in grades K–12.

• Parents/guardians should notify the school or teacher of the student's intent to participate remotely.
• Students may use asynchronous remote attendance for up to 5 days per academic year.
• Remote attendance is not permitted during district/state testing days or during the first 10 days of the school year.

Attendance Recovery

The District may require students with absences to complete Attendance Recovery opportunities to make up missed instructional time.

• Families will receive at least two weeks' notice.
• Students may recover up to 5 days per semester.
