West Chatham Middle students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how parents, all school staff, and students will share responsibility for improving student academic achievement, as well as outlines how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve high standards of the State.

Jointly Developed

Parents and teachers jointly developed the Parent Compact.

Parents and teachers jointly developed the Parent Compact. Teachers met in grade-level teams with the school's Family Engagement Facilitator to devise effective strategies for students' academic success at school and at home. Parents provided valuable feedback through the Family Engagement Survey and Family Forum. Annual meetings are held to review and revise the Compact based on our academic achievement goals and student needs. Parents/guardians are encouraged to provide feedback on the Covenant at any time.

Goals of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it's first important to understand the district's and school's goals for student academic achievement.

· Goal 1 Promote the development of foundational skills and expand early learning opportunities.

· Goal 2 Advance proficiency in literacy and numeracy through high quality instruction and support for diverse learners.

· Goal 3 Enhance learning opportunities to develop the critical thinking and interpersonal skills needed for workforce development and college readiness.

· Goal 4 Provide high quality support and services for whole child development.

West Chatham Middle School Goals

West Chatham Middle School is committed to providing students with a quality educational experience.

· Objective 1

Increase the number of students performing at the proficient and higher level of achievement on the GMAS assessment across all subjects by 10% during the Spring 2024 test administration.

· Objective 2

Increase the percentage of students with disabilities by 10% (SWD) who perform at the developmental student achievement level or higher in ELA and Mathematics in I Ready Projected Proficiency by weekly monitoring of co-teaching instruction.

· Objective 3

Increasing the CCRPI Star Climate rating score from 3 stars to 4 stars during the 2024-2025 school year.

How We Communicate

We communicate with parents through: email, text, calls, marquee posts, school website, social media, Zoom meetings, parent-teacher conferences, phone calls, talking points, and PowerSchool parent access portals. If you have questions or concerns, always discuss them first with your child's teacher by calling (912) 395-3650. Or by email. Please keep your child's information up to date. Review and update the Student Verification Form. PowerSchool is a very imperative tool for maintaining the relevance of your child's attendance and academic status.

ACTIVITIES TO BUILD PARTNERSHIPS:

Parents can volunteer, observe, and participate in school activities to build partnerships that support student learning.

· Volunteer opportunities with VISTA (helping with events and field trips).

SCHOOL/TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Send home materials focused on improving reading skills.

· Provide weekly or bi-weekly vocabulary.

· Assign and verify weekly journal entries.

· Encourage and support the use of interactive notebooks to improve comprehension and comprehension.

· Provide procedures for gaining access to Google Classroom and other technology resources to help students with assignments and homework.

· Provide after-school tutoring opportunities.

Parent/Family Responsibilities:

We, as parents:

· Check student assignments to ensure the student is completing weekly/monthly reading assignments.

· Practice with student vocabulary and spelling words.

· Read and review the child's weekly diary entries.

· Use the resources provided by the teacher, the interactive notebook, and the assignments to work with the child.

· Give the child the opportunity to access online resources. (Hard copies of the resources will be given by the teacher.)

· Provide transportation for the child to attend after-school tutoring.
